Do you have a 4-year-old that you would like to enroll in Preschool?
Lewis County C-1 has applied for a grant to expand Preschool services for 4 and 5-year-old children (must be 4 on or before July 31st) of the district. While we will not receive official notice of approval until September 1, 2023, we are moving forward with arrangements as if it will be approved. If approved, we will be operational by September 15th!
The MOQPK-LEA grant and PreK Startup grant opportunities are aimed at increasing access to Preschool for eligible families. The program would require at least 80% of the students in the preschool program to meet the eligibility criteria for Free and Reduced school meals.
If approved, the district would be able to expand the services for current 4-year-old students attending Highland’s existing preschool program to be a Full Day program offered all 5 days of the week. Additionally, there would be up to 20 additional preschool spots open for a full-day, 5 days per week program. School bus transportation will be provided if approved.
Information and sign-up will be available at back-to-school registration held this week on Tuesday (8/8/23) from 1pm – 7pm and Wednesday (8/9/23) from 9am – 2pm at Highland High School. Parents with children 4 years old that are interested in signing their child up for preschool, pending grant approval, are encouraged to contact the Elementary Office at 573-209-3586 to sign up or to email Larry Post at lpost@lewis.k12.mo.us or John French at jfrench@lewis.k12.mo.us for more information. Preschool screenings will need to be scheduled, unless a preschool screening for the child has already taken place at Highland. All interested families will need to submit a completed 2023-2024 Free & Reduced Lunch Application. The Preschool Screening and Free and Reduced Applications will need to be completed and submitted ASAP to meet the timeline requirements.
